Wat ik me nu afvraag: is een pelgrimstocht eigenlijk een vorm van boetedoening of een vorm van verering van de geschiedenis vh eindpunt?
Misschien een domme vraag?
Maar julie zijn er en hebben een geweldige en intense tijd gehad. Fantastisch, met respect!
Complimenten, en jullie reisverslag is al klaar , heerlijk om later op terug te kijken. Mocht je tijd en zin hebben dan is het de moeite waard om de St Pieter te beklimmen, vooral de trap vond ik bijzonder en grappig om te zien hoe de beelden vastgezet zijn op het dak.
En natuurlijk een rozenkrans meenemen uit Vaticaan stad! Dit is nog eens wat anders dan een bedevaart naar Zegge ( de Zeg zeiden we vroeger)

Wat een mooie foto’s weer en elke keer zoveel interessante geschiedenis. Ik vind die vergezichten altijd leuk als je kan zien waar je geweest bent. Mooie bospaden, de bloemetjes lijken op cyclamen.
Loving this part of the journey. The amphitheatre carved out of stone!! Never heard of this or seen it before. The little village on the hill, the view of the distance back to where you were two days ago. Walking is such a different way to relate to the earth. Love to you both.

Nog maar 3 dagen! Geniet er maar van, want in een vloek en een zucht zijn ze voorbij (in vergelijking met wat er achter jullie ligt) en is het terugkijken geblazen.
Leuk dat jullie nog zoveel oude Romeinse wegen belopen. Ook het weer is herkenbaar, eerst kijken op buienradar , dan naar de lucht en dan maar hopen dat je de bui net voor bent! Veel plezier met de laatste kilometers
So close to Rome now. So many churches, and each one with its 'something special' beloved by those who know about it. I love this. Also the people who 'welcome' pilgrims. Lovely to read these stories. Safe travels for the rest of your journey.
Viterbo is really a beautiful city. When I was in Rome I used to go to visit the Focolare community. A popa from the Gen Verde comes from Viterbo.
Zo hè. Jullie zijn bijna in Rome. Wat een weer hebben jullie gehad zeg. Alle weertypes zijn al voorbij gekomen tijdens jullie wandeltocht. Maar nog even en dan is jullie doel bereikt. Sienna was ook beroemd om zijn paard rennen , zien jullie nog paarden onderweg of staan die in schaduwrijke stallen?
Prachtig gebied, Toscane. En wat schieten jullie goed op.
Ik denk overigens dat die witte reigers die jullie zagen koereigers waren, die zitten vaak bij weilanden. Zie site vogelbescherming.

I love the sign to Rome. So heartening I imagine, although it will seem forever to get there, and then suddenly be so close. Lovely to be travelling with you both.

San gimignano stond zelfs op ons lijstje om te bezoeken toen we een paar jaar geleden in noord Italië op vakantie waren , dank voor jullie beschrijving , we vonden het toen te heet en te ver. Geruststellend dat de zondag middag voor het eten ( met familie) is , zowel in als buiten de restaurants

Leuk zo'n stempelkaart. Roept herinneringen op aan een stempelkaart in de vastentijd voor als je voor schooltijd al naar de kerk was geweest haha. Volle kaart: een koetjesreep! Rooms Eindhoven, om precies te zijn Woensel.....
Wandel met plezier en gezondheid verder! Dat gaat jullie vast lukken.

Leuk om de stempelkaart te zien. Fantastisch hoe goed jullie het volhouden, zeker als je verhalen van andere pelgrims hoort af en toe. Succes met de volgende etappes!
Weer mooie verhalen hoor. Het is wel knap warm bij jullie zo te lezen. Dat is dus inderdaad vroeg gaan wandelen. En al heel wat stempels bij elkaar gelopen. Toch een leuk aandenken. En hoeveel kerken hebben ze in Italië niet zeg. Wel mooi om te zien, die oude gebouwen.

I remember going to visit the marble quarries at Carrara, so beautiful.
Love the little fort, so many fascinatingly shaped castle/forts in the Italian section of this pilgrimage. Loving to be journeying with you both so thank you very much for the blog!

Nog enkele aanvullingen voor onze eigen herinneringen/a few additions so we ourselves do not forget (sorry, I have written them in Dutch only):
Langs het pad omlaag naar Sarzano had iemand een kastje neergezet met versgeplukte druiven- voor de pelgrims; Toen we het kerkje 7 km na Pontremoli aan het bekijken waren ging het alarm af. Wij naar buiten gesneld maar niemand kwam. Het alarm hield na een aantal minuten op; op weg naar Bibola werden we geplaagd door horzels. Heel vervelend. Maar we hebben ontdekt dat DEET ze op afstand houdt.
Navenant het maar een klein gat is wel veel restaurantjes en B&B's. Veel touristen?

Enjoying the commentary Gerard and Elly. Yes, it's a nice part of the world. I notice you are currently 'just over the hill' from La Spezia, where we spent several days back in 2018, and walked the Cinque Terre.
Continuing to love being on this pilgrimage with you both! Amazing how much country-side the trail goes through I thought. Glad you are enjoying it so much and staying well. May it continue.

Knap hoe jullie tijdens die hete dagen toch bleven lopen.
Eerst te heet, nu te nat. Het wordt jullie niet gemakkelijk gemaakt. Volgens Nederlandse weerbericht gaat er veel regen vallen in Noord-Italië 32 mm, vooral in de vroege uurtjes. Eind van de ochtend, nog steeds regen, maar wat minder intens. Extra rustdagje?
Gelukkig is het niet zo warm meer. Hopelijk houden jullie het redelijk droog onder het lopen. Succes verder hoor.

Dagen van tanden op elkaar en het ene been voor het andere blijven zetten zo te horen. Bikkels hoor met die hitte! Gelukkig nog geen signalen van oververhitting.

Thanks for your description of your adventure. While you've been doing Tour de France and Italia alps, I've been mountaineering on the Sunshine Coast Australia, conquered Mt Emu twice, with its height of 71m and the massive Mt Coolum at 202m.
